How to Access Your Router Configuration

 

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. In the “Open” text box, type CMD and click OK
  4. (You will see a black window pop up with white text) Key “ipconfig” (no quotes) and press enter.
  5. (You should see three sets of numbers, write down the number next to Default Gateway. This is the ip address of the router, make note of it. You will need this in a later step.)
  6. Open Internet Explorer
  7. In the address bar at the top of the IE window key in the ip address of the Default Gateway (from step 5.).
  8. You will be asked for a user name and password.  All routers come with a default setting for this.  Unless your router user name and password has been previously changed, it should be one of these below: (if your router type is not in this list, you should consult the manufacturer’s website.)

  1. Once you are inside the router you can navigate to the wireless section. (DLink, look under LAN)
  2. After accessing Wireless options, look for Security.  Click on this section and you should find your wireless password.
